Curated by Claire Catterall, Stealing Beauty was the ICA’s first show dedicated solely to design. Bringing together designers from different disciplines, it set out to demonstrate how each derived new meaning from ordinary objects by building on associations that are common to us all.
Initially invited to exhibit, GTF chose instead to participate by creating the exhibition graphics. Captions were engraved on to the plastic laminate typically used for utility signs in the standard sign-makers’ typeface. Illustrations were based on outlines traced from snapshots of the exhibitors. Biographical texts and handwritten Q&As were desktop-printed on to A4 sheets and attached to the plastic panels with elastic bands.
GTF also designed a catalogue to accompany the show.
