Manufacturing over eighty ranges of paper, the size and diversity of the Italian mill’s production is unequalled throughout Europe. Fedrigoni asked GTF to develop a tool that would provide its international market of designers and printers with a complete overview of all their products. The result is Paper Box: 700 sample sheets across three swatch books that slot into one slipcase – compact enough to function as a practical desktop tool yet large enough to provide a tangible sense of each paper’s bulk and tactile qualities. Straightforward organisation and a concise approach to language make Paper Box intuitive to use and easy to navigate.
Fedrigoni makes a raw material onto which its customers can project their own identity. Therefore neutrality of presentation is important. The combination of simple typography – Fedrigoni Display, a custom headline font commissioned by GTF, which evolved from Aldo Novarese’s 1968 Forma typeface – and expansive areas of unprinted black material make for a graphic language that is distinct but objective.
To support the launch of Paper Box, GTF designed a suite of collateral materials including a set of silkscreen-printed posters and a short film directed by Kristian Andrews at Studio AKA.
